Understanding the Premium Book:
If this is your first time looking at the book, there are some important things to know.
First, decide which category you fall into: Sprout, Junior, or Open.
- Sprouts: This department is for anyone aged 5-8 who are just beginning their exhibiting journey. These exhibitors may show a static entry (something not alive, like knitting or arts and crafts), or can show an animal. See Entry Information for more details on the Sprouts division!
- Junior: This is for anyone aged 8-19 and are a member of a youth organization which could be 4-H, FFA, or many other kinds of clubs! Juniors can We have many departments available for Junior Exhibitors. There are 28 different departments (which are broad categories like woodworking, flowers & plants, cats, dogs, etc) that give juniors unlimited opportunities to submit a project.
- Open: This is for ANYONE aged 5 and up. Exhibitors in this category could be a 10 year old that isn't in a youth organization, a 25 year old that just began a new skill, or a 90 year old hoping to show off their years of hard work at a project! There are 13 different departments (which are broad categories like woodworking, flowers & plants, sheep, poultry, etc) that give exhibitors unlimited opportunities to submit a project.
Departments
Departments are big categories, with a bunch of smaller categories in them called Divisions and Classes. There are 28 junior departments (including sheep, woodworking, electricity, dairy cattle, and more). There are 13 open departments (including flowers & house plants, poultry, draft horse, and more). There is only 1 Sprout department, but there are many divisions inside of it.
Divisions
Divisions are the second tiers of the book. They are listed by letters A-Z. Let's take Junior Cultural Arts for example. Inside the department, there is Division A: Drawing; Division B: Painting; Division C: Leathercraft, all the way down to P!
Classes
The final tier of the book are classes. They are listed by numbers 1-100. Let's take Junior Cultural Arts, Division A: Drawing for example. Inside of that division, you could do Class 1: Pencil drawing; class 2: charcoal drawing; class 3: colored pencil drawing; all the way down to 12!
