What is an Exhibit?

An exhibit is any project that can be brought to the Fair. The projects can be an animal or an object (which we call a static exhibit). If you bring a project to the Fair, you are called an exhibitor. An exhibit can be almost ANYTHING including paintings, pictures you took, a live animal you raised, a stuffed animal you crocheted, a dress that you sewed

Who can be an exhibitor?

Anyone aged 5 or older can be an exhibitor! We have three different categories for exhibiting:
  • Sprouts: This department is for anyone aged 5-8 who are just beginning their exhibiting journey. These exhibitors may show a static entry (something not alive, like knitting or arts and crafts), or can show an animal. See Entry Information for more details on the Sprouts division!
  • Junior: This is for anyone aged 8-19 and are a member of a youth organization which could be 4-H, FFA, or many other kinds of clubs! Juniors can We have many departments available for Junior Exhibitors. There are 28 different departments (which are broad categories like woodworking, flowers & plants, cats, dogs, etc) that give juniors unlimited opportunities to submit a project.
  • Open: This is for ANYONE aged 5 and up. Exhibitors in this category could be a 10 year old that isn't in a youth organization, a 25 year old that just began a new skill, or a 90 year old hoping to show off their years of hard work at a project! There are 13 different departments (which are broad categories like woodworking, flowers & plants, sheep, poultry, etc) that give exhibitors unlimited opportunities to submit a project.
    • Seniors can find optional divisions for them within the open department. Each open department has options for Seniors (individuals aged 62 and older).

How do I get started?

  1. Take a look at the Premium Book. This book lists every opportunity to submit a project. Figure out if you'll submit in Sprout, Junior, or Open, then choose a department (category; for example: knitting & crocheting) which you'd like to try! You can find a list of all the categories here: Premium Book
  2. Register your projects. The Fair uses an online system called "FairEntry" to submit projects. You can find the link to sign-up and help information here: Entry Information
  3. Create your projects! Any project that you make throughout the year and fits into a Fair department (category) can be brought to the Fair. If you made a ceramic mug in art class this year, learned a new song on the guitar, or made a woodburned sculpture for a decoration, you can enter it into the Fair!
  4. Bring your projects to the Fair. Each project has a "due date". Depending on what type of entry it is (Sprout, Junior, or Open) and what department it is, you'll have a specific date to bring it to the Fair.
  5. Judging. If you're a Sprout or Junior exhibitor, you'll likely participate in face-to-face judging. This is a time where the exhibitor explains the project to the judge, and gets to answer questions about your hard work!
